Abstracted by the Scarlet Water

The model used for this photo is one of my close friends and I had him pose in a homemade toga. In this painting, I explored the properties of the fabric and experimented with texture using a palette knife. One common problem I had when painting was realizing too late in the rendering process that my art piece was duller than what I wanted it to be. In this piece, I challenged myself to use pure paint (except white) for the darkest value, avoid black paint, and block colors instead of blending them.
